Background checks are carried out by trading standards, on businesses that want to be part of the approved trader or business schemes, giving them Trading Standards accreditation, therefore giving consumers in Kent a choice of businesses they can rely on to act lawfully and legitimately, particularly those who are more vulnerable.
Scheme operators or trade organisations can apply for their members to be certified by Trading Standards. The scheme operator must carry out checks on their members, which includes:
- The members identity
- Their address
- Any accreditation and qualifications they have
- That the business or trader has public liability and employers liability insurance
The scheme operator would also need to have a face to face meeting with members, to ensure all facts are correct.
There are certain standards that must be reached, also any recommendations that Trading Standards makes after an audit., must be followed.
